Luna y Sol Community Habitat / Hábitat Comunitario Luna y Sol

Rooted in culture. Grown by community.

A living, breathing symbol of connection and care.
This space was designed by and for South Tucson to bloom with creativity, wellness, and resilience.

Why the Habitat Exists

A new community habitat garden at Luna y Sol Cafe in South Tucson brings together residents, nature, and culture through a public-private partnership aimed at fostering sustainability and connection.

The Luna y Sol Community Habitat was created to nourish more than plants, it’s designed to cultivate conversations, relationships, and a deeper sense of belonging. Every element reflects our commitment to wellness, community resilience, and cultural pride.

Born out of a shared vision with the Tucson Bird Alliance, the habitat reimagines underused urban space as a living example of environmental and social healing. It serves as a gathering place where intergenerational stories are honored, pollinators are protected, and community identity is celebrated. It’s a space where culture, care, and climate action intersect, offering both beauty and purpose in the heart of South Tucson.

Special thanks to Barrio Restoration, the City of South Tucson, United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona, and all our neighbors for helping us cultivate this land with love, vision, and community spirit.
This partnership was made possible with support from Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day and KidsGardening through the inaugural Lots of Compassion grant program. We’re proud to be among the first recipients of this new national initiative dedicated to transforming neglected spaces into community-centered green places.
